Expert-Judged Categories

As part of the new awards programme, we have added new categories to ensure that it is open to the whole of the travel industry and supports our Smarter, Better, Fairer mission.

 

All entrants will need to complete a written submission, which focuses on what you have achieved and enhanced in the last 12 months specifically. Entries will open on 6 April 2020 for the below categories, with the shortlist being decided by a panel of TTG’s senior editorial team.

 

The shortlisted submissions will then be assessed by a panel of independent industry experts. The fee to enter is £249 +VAT (or £299 +VAT after the first deadline), and all entrants will receive feedback if not successful in being shortlisted, or winning.

Key timelines for expert-judged categories:

  • 6 April - 17 May: written entries submitted £249 (+VAT)
  • 18 May - 31 May: extended deadline for written entries £299 (+VAT)
  • 15 June: shortlist announced
  • Early July: judging takes place
  • 10 September: winners revealed

 

 

Best Accessible Travel Provider

This category is open to any UK or Ireland-based travel business that excels in the accessible holidays market. It is a cross-sector category, meaning retailers are able to enter as well as tour operators, airlines, cruise lines, resort operators and other suppliers.

Best Car Hire Brand

This category is for full-service car hire brands who own/operate their own fleets.

 

Note: If you are a car hire broker that works with the travel trade, please consider entering the Best Holiday Essentials Provider category.

Best Family Holidays Provider

This category is open to any UK or Ireland-based travel business that excels in the family holidays market. It is a cross-sector category, meaning retailers are able to enter as well as tour operators, cruise lines, resort operators and other suppliers.

Best LGBT-Friendly Holidays Provider

This category is open to any UK or Ireland-based travel business that excels in the LGBT-friendly holidays market. It is a cross-sector category, meaning retailers are able to enter as well as tourist boards, tour operators, cruise lines, resort operators, and other suppliers.

Best PR and Representation Company

This category is for PR, marketing and representation companies that work with travel and tourism brands in the UK & Ireland.

Best Technology Partner

This category is for technology providers that provider full-scale booking platforms, back office systems or GDSs to travel and tourism businesses in the UK & Ireland.

 

Note: Companies providing specific products or services such as review sites, itinerary planning apps, forex and telephony should consider entering the Best Technology Service category instead.

Best Technology Service

This category is for technology companies that provider a specific service or platform to travel and tourism businesses in the UK & Ireland. These might include review sites, itinerary planning apps, forex, telephony, web-chat functionality etc.

 

Note: Technology companies providing comprehensive booking/back office systems or GDS services should consider the Best Technology Partner category.

Best Tourist Board

This category is for UK and Ireland based tourist offices.

Best UK and Irish Airport

This category is for airports in the UK or Ireland.

Best UK and Ireland Holidays Provider

This category is open to any UK or Ireland-based travel business that excels in selling holidays in the UK and/or Ireland, to the domestic market. It is a cross-sector category, meaning retailers are able to enter as well as tour operators, airlines, cruise lines, resort operators and other suppliers.

Best Workplace for Diversity & Inclusion

This category is for any UK or Ireland-based travel and tourism business that have made changes within their workplace in the last 12 months, to make it more diverse and inclusive. This means not only having a workforce that is diverse (in terms of gender, ethnicity, sexuality, physical ability and socio-economic background) but also ensuring that all employees are supported and able to reach their potential, and that senior leadership teams are representative of the UK public to which they sell travel.

 

Suitable initiatives might include changes to recruitment strategies, new Employee Resource Groups, programmes to help existing employees reach for more senior roles etc.

Best Youth Travel Provider

This category is open to any UK or Ireland-based travel business that excels in the youth travel market, for travellers aged approximately 18-35. It is a cross-sector category, meaning retailers are able to enter as well as tour operators, cruise lines, resort operators and other suppliers.

Responsible Travel Award for Communities

This category is for any UK or Ireland-based travel and tourism business that has delivered an impactful

responsible travel initiative in the last 12 months aimed at giving back to local communities in tourism destinations, or their own local community here in the UK&I. That might include charity projects, social enterprise, or working with schools/young people.

Responsible Travel Award for the Environment

This category is for any UK or Ireland-based travel and tourism business that has delivered an impactful responsible travel initiative in the last 12 months aimed at minimising their negative environmental impact and/or maximising their positive environmental impact. That might include carbon, water or waster reduction programmes, plastic elimination projects, animal welfare initiatives, or conservation projects.
