Travel agent entry tips

Our judges will be looking for an agent who has given a genuinely award-winning performance in the last 12 months including excellence in customer service, strong sales performance, an innovative approach to business growth and commitment to personal development and product knowledge.


The system will not let you enter more than the allocated word count in each of the three boxes. Consider writing your entry in a Word document and editing it down to fit. We recommend writing your entry in succinct bullet points if you’re struggling to keep to the word count. You can write up to a maximum of 400 words for each of Question 1 and Question 2: you don’t need to write that much, but if you’ve written less than 200 words in either section you might not have given enough detail and evidence to convince our judges.


There is a facility to upload supporting materials, but please do not upload lengthy PowerPoint presentations, staff training manuals, series of adverts etc, unless they really do provide information which cannot be conveyed in your answers.

Please give us a 100-word overview of your career history, key achievements, and your current position, specialisms and responsibilities, so judges know a little more about you.


Question 1: Delivering excellent customer service – worth 10 points


Areas to consider might include: how do you ensure you deliver excellent customers service every time, and how have you improved or developed that in the last 12 months? Have you introduced new systems/procedures/technologies to communicate with customers and improve customer service? What examples do you have of when you’ve gone above and beyond the call of duty for a customer in the last 12 months? What feedback have you had from your customers? How do you measure customer satisfaction and has it improved? How did you strive to improve your product knowledge? What specific training have you done in the last 12 months? Online courses? Supplier visits? Fam trips?


Question 2: Achieving sales and growing business – worth 10 points


Areas to consider might include: What has been your total value of bookings in the past 12 months, and what has been your year-on-year growth? What were your targets? Any notable bookings/stand-out achievements? Have you increased not just sales but margins/profitability too? What new marketing ideas (eg communications, events, digital, social media, promotions) have you introduced to your business in the last 12 months, and what evidence do you have of their success (ie return on investment)? How have you used your budget/resources effectively? What new ways of communicating with or selling to customers have you tried? What new products have you marketed? How successfully have you gained new customers and retained existing customers?
