But it’s been wonderful since launching our annual search for the nation’s top agents to be able to meet and learn about so many businesses that we’d never come across before. And while many of the TTG Top 50 Travel Agencies from 2016 have also earned a place in the 2017 list, there are many who are entirely new to the scheme.
If that proves anything (except that 11 years still makes me a relative newcomer in travel), it’s that the agent landscape in the UK and Ireland in 2017 is more buoyant and diverse than many might believe.
The number of agents who wanted to be considered for our prestigious list almost doubled in year two, from 500 to 950, which means the competition was phenomenally stiff, with only 5% making the list.
The incredible popularity of the scheme is due in no small part to the fact that winning a place in our Top 50 is about much more than a swanky awards ceremony: the Top 50 badge gives meaningful recognition to those agents who have gone the furthest for their customers, done most in their local communities, and run their businesses the most innovatively, in the last 12 months.
It’s been thrilling to see how winning last year has led to significant business growth for many of our 2016 winners, and I’ve no doubt our 2017 winners will enjoy much of the same.
