2016: TTG's look at the year ahead

This year has seen plenty of highs and lows for the UK travel industry. While the prospect of cruise ship launches and new flight routes is easier to guarantee, Greece’s future in the eurozone and where terrorists could strike next are harder to predict.

Yet looking ahead to 2016 there are a number of trends we can forecast. Throughout this special supplement we’ve looked at a range of sectors in the industry and asked the experts what they think you’ll be selling over the next 12 months.

Cruise highlights include another influx of new ships from the likes of Royal Caribbean, Holland America Line and Carnival, as well as many refurbishments.

In the touring and adventure sector, destinations that were previously out of bounds such as Iran and Colombia are coming back into focus, resulting in some exciting opportunities – see page 18 for more.

We also take a look at the long and short-haul sectors and see up-and-coming destinations and new ways of travelling, such as multi-centre breaks and increasing demand for authenticity.

The all-important ancillaries sector also sees a number of new developments, from back-end systems to new product.

In addition we’ve got top tips on how to sell the sectors in 2016 and a whole series of profiles from suppliers across the industry, highlighting their key developments for the coming year.

Of course we can’t predict exactly what will happen as the year progresses, but as those bells (and sales) ring in 2016 we hope to help you get a head start.
