Welcome to the first open day of WTM London 2016. Today the doors are open to the whole of the travel and tourism industry following an exhibitor invite-only day yesterday.
Today sees the start of our comprehensive WTM London events programme, which includes more than 80 sessions. The highlight of today’s programme is the 10th World Responsible Tourism Day (WRTD). The movement seeks to inspire, educate and stimulate honest discussion and debate regarding the industry’s commitment to responsible travel. I am extremely proud to say today is the largest day of responsible tourism action in the world, with many events taking place globally.
Furthermore, it is also the 20th anniversary of the birth of responsible tourism when the South African government put sustainability at the heart of its tourism agenda. WRTD will evaluate the progress made over the past 20 years and predict what the industry will look like in 20 years’ time. Don’t miss the WRTD opening Ceremony on the Global Stage (AS950) at 10.30am. The World Responsible Tourism Awards celebrates its 12th year, with the ceremony taking place straight after the debate.
Today’s keynote sees futurist Brian Solis discuss the impact of technology on the travel industry. He spoke at yesterday’s WTM Leaders’ Lunch and had the audience of 200 chief executives captivated. Also don’t miss the WTM 2016 Global Trends Report session in the WTM Inspire Theatre (EU475) at 3pm.
I hope you find the content of today stimulating.
