Situated in a hidden garden near the Kinkaku-Ji Temple, Aman Kyoto, which opens next month, offers 24 rooms and two villas designed in the style of a traditional ryokan inn.

The hotel comprises standalone pavilions, each with a distinct function including a check-in area, living spaces, dining rooms and a spa.

Quirky additions include bamboo hampers for clients to request to take on picnics, and the opportunity to meditate with a Zen Buddhist monk.

“We are incredibly excited to open Aman Kyoto, as the property has been 20 years in
the making,” says general manager Akira Shiota. “What sets us apart is our eight acres
of private gardens and 72 [acres] of forest.

It’s an ethereal landscape that transports you to another time, with the sound of streams, valley views and moss-covered pathways.

The hotel’s architecture, by the late Kerry Hill, has been designed so [clients] feel a connection to the outdoors, with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out to forest canopies or the gently flowing stream.”
