Vilnius, the city break you need to know about

Vilnius, Lithuania’s bold capital, is having a moment, and it’s time you switched on to all that the destination has to offer your customers

With Lithuania’s capital Vilnius seeing a 25% increase in UK visitors in 2018 and a brand-new direct daily LOT Polish Airlines flight from London City to Vilnius International launch in May 2019, this underrated destination is about to come into the spotlight even more than it was previously. Now, the destination welcomes services with a number of airlines from three London airports and a further five throughout the UK.

And, with Vilnius becoming such a fast-evolving city, Go Vilnius has created an easy way for agents to share its wonders with their clients. The organisation has revealed a special travel trade package for agents to benefit from whether they’re travelling for work or leisure – all they need to do is provide proof of occupation. This package incorporates a Vilnius Pass (which gives visitors access to more than 30 museums and attractions), a sightseeing tour, a tasting menu for two at an acclaimed Lithuanian restaurant in the Old Town and a hotel stay in the city centre at a discounted rate.

Once visitors touch down in the cultural capital, it’s likely Lithuania’s warm welcome will be the first to surprise them. Secondly, it’ll be the streets that never sleep. During the day, culture pulses through the artistic city’s architecture, museums, art galleries and cafes, and at night, the cobbled lanes and main arteries of the city are lit up by the lights of festivals, concerts and year-round bars. Saviciaus Street and Vilniaus Street are hubs for nightlife and local liqueurs.

With so much going on it’s important visitors keep themselves well fuelled, so it’s a good job the city is a foodie’s paradise too. Whether your customer is seeking brunch, fine dining, a summer BBQ, afternoon tea, sweet treats or food markets, Vilnius can deliver. The country's cuisine goes far beyond potatoes and meat, and, on exploring Vilnius’ culinary scene, this will become crystal clear.

When it comes to visitors needing a place to rest at the end of an action-packed day, Vilnius offers a wide range of accommodation options. It's thanks to more and more business and leisure travellers visiting Vilnius annually that the city is attracting new international and local hotel chains. There are 10 brand-new hotels that have already opened or are set to open between 2018 and 2021, including Design Hotels, Marriott and Hilton.

Curating the perfect city break

There are so many things to see and do in Vilnius it can be a little overwhelming, so Go Vilnius has drawn up some themed self-guided tours – or routes – throughout the city. These guides have themes ranging from street art, food/beer and photography to Jewish heritage and the acclaimed HBO series Chernobyl, for which many scenes were filmed in the Lithuanian capital. If you’re looking for something to add wow-factor to your customer’s city break, recommend a hot-air balloon ride over the metropolis.

In order to gain more knowledge on Vilnius and turn it into a booking, travel agents are encouraged to get in touch with Go Vilnius.
