Brazil question

Brazil’s borders are open (I believe); and my BA Flight is still operating (departing 04 April).

My TO is cancelling the trip further to the Gvts recent announcement, but the flight is operating as normal. The ground was booked through Latin Routes, the air I did directly using Avios, cash and a companion voucher.

What do I do? This was a ‘once in a lifetime trip’ that I cannot just push back to later in the year.

Hi Ian, our expert Martin Alcock had the following answer for you:

"I assume Latin Routes has sold the ground arrangements as a non-flight package and is no longer able to provide these arrangements due to the Foreign and Commonwealth Advice on all but essential international travel. Under the Package Travel Regulations, Latin Routes as a package organiser should offer the customer an acceptable alternative (which the customer has the right to reject) or provide a full refund within 14 days of cancellation. It appears that Latin Routes has offered you an alternative of a postponed trip.

"However, if the separately organised flight has still not been cancelled by the airline, normal terms and conditions would apply. You may be able to cancel the flight or rearrange to alternative dates, but this would be subject to the terms, restrictions or fees on the particular ticket.

I" therefore, see you have 2 choices: Rearrange both the Latin Routes non-flight package and the flight to a future suitable date - Take the existing flight and try to find an alternative provider of similar ground arrangements from an alternative provider. Seek a full refund from Latin Routes for your original purchase, though this may not be available until a later date.

"Pursue more forceful request for an immediate refund from Latin Routes under the Package Travel Regulations. However, you should be aware that in the current climate, where tour operators are facing overwhelming numbers of refund requests, many tour operators are having to offer credit-notes which can be redeemed against future travel or a delayed refund. Often they have paid out money to suppliers and are themselves awaiting refunds. We understand that CAA and ABTA are discussing a potential, temporary relaxation of certain sections of the package travel regulations (ABTA published a recent announcement to this effect). Practically this is the only way that many tour operators will survive the current situation."
