The airline is currently the only carrier to operate non-stop flights between Heathrow and Mauritius and is due to start using its new A330-900neo aircraft on the route from Friday (April 19).

The aircraft includes a business class cabin with 28 seats that convert into a fully-flat bed and also features a 15.4in HD entertainment screens and aisle access. This seat will be the same as the one already installed on Air Mauritius’ A350s.

Ian Nash, regional manager of UK and Ireland for Air Mauritius, said: “We are confident that this new cutting-edge aircraft will provide the perfect start for our passengers to begin their holiday to Mauritius and are proud to be the first operator to introduce this aircraft to the Indian Ocean on our route from the UK.”

Air Mauritius plans to operate the A330-900neo on all Heathrow flights from May 3.

Somas Appavou, chief executive of Air Mauritius, added: “The addition of two new A330neos to our fleet will bring more flexibility and efficiency to our operations, while supporting our network strategy.

“The A330neo offers similar levels of comfort as the A350 XWB, which has received very favourable feedback from our guests.”

Air Mauritius’ decision to put its newest aircraft on to the Heathrow route comes as major UK-based carriers, including both Virgin Atlantic and British Airways, are about to upgrade their own onboard cabins on their new long-haul aircraft.

Virgin Atlantic is to include a new Upper Class suite on its new Airbus A350 aircraft, which are due to start arriving this summer, while also introducing The Loft social space for Upper Class passengers.

It’s a similar story for BA after unveiling its new business class “Club Suite” seat to be installed on its own A350s from this summer.
