AKP, which supports 125,000 people through a series of projects around the world, is working with its co-ordinators and community partners on several initiatives.

This work includes procuring soap and essential medical supplies to be distributed to communities, as well as supplementing the income of local women whose businesses have been forced to shut down temporarily due to the pandemic.

“Many of AKP’s partner communities lack the infrastructure and essential resources needed to even stand a chance against a global pandemic,” said the operator.

“In response to challenges that we are currently facing, AKP is mobilising our efforts around the globe.

“Working with our co-ordinators in Peru, Brazil, south-east Asia, India, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and Zambia, we are planning for the most effective methods to assist to resource-limited regions where our A&K guests travel.”

One of AKP’s programmes provides school lunches to 3,500 children around the world – many of these schools are now being used as isolation wards for those suffering from the coronavirus.

As a result, AKP is currently working with communities in Zambia, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania to use school kitchens to get meals to those people who are sick and isolated.

“AKP has the expertise, on-the-ground experience and long-term commitment to stand with our community partners during a crisis,” added the operator. “They are currently working on initiatives to help feed those in need.”
