We have taken agents to some amazing places during our ttgluxury Experiences and now we are venturing to the fascinating country of Myanmar for the first time.
We have teamed up with Strand Cruise, The Strand, Yangon and Emirates to take the group to this fabled land of ancient temples, misty plains and the Ayeyarwady river.
A trip to Myanmar offers a rare glimpse of ancient Asia, which since the opening up of tourism, has witnessed an increase in arrivals fascinated to find out more. Recognising the appeal of the destination, Emirates commenced a new daily service in August from Dubai to Yangon, its first destination within Myanmar.
This new service is operated on a Boeing 777-300ER with a three-class configuration of First Class, Business Class and Economy Class and a flight time of approximately five hours, 45 minutes from Dubai.
The daily service between Dubai and Yangon (EK388/EK389) departs Dubai at 03:30 allowing easy connections from the UK and arrives into Yangon at 11:40. On the return, it departs Yangon at 01:50, arriving into Dubai at 05:05.
The new flight expands the airline’s network in south-east Asia to 12 cities in seven countries, offering even more choices and convenience to passengers travelling between Dubai and Asia.
On this trip, you will fly Business Class and while onboard Emirates’ 777-300ER aircraft, you’ll sample the airline’s fantastic service and award-winning in-flight entertainment system ICE, which has more than 2,500 channels available on-demand.
“Emirates are excited to offer agents the chance to experience a luxurious journey to Myanmar in style,” said Vicky Robinson, leisure sales manager for Emirates. “The newly launched route offers agents a sensational product and destination to offer to their clients and enhances our south-east Asia offering.”
Upon arrival in Myanmar, lucky agents on the ttgluxury Experience will get to stay at The Strand, Yangon, acclaimed as one of south-east Asia’s leading luxury hotels.
Aviet and Tigran Sarkies, the hoteliers responsible for other colonial jewels in the region, such as Raffles in Singapore and the Eastern & Oriental in Penang, created this city landmark in 1901 and it has been the social epicenter of Yangon ever since.
Now the legend has been reborn, having opened its doors on November 15. The city has its icon back and agents will be able to enjoy its unique colonial charm during our trip in March 2017.
The Strand, Yangon has retained its heritage architectural details, while also enjoying a complete upgrade with a contemporary twist. All 31 suites are in keeping with the Strand’s legendary style and elegance, but have been updated with the latest technology, including new air conditioning, sound and communications systems.
On the trip, we will sample gourmet dining in the Strand Signature Restaurant, enjoy the casually elegant Strand Cafe overlooking the bustle of the Yangon Road, and the famous Strand Bar, where Noel Coward and Rudyard Kipling swapped stories over Strand Sour cocktails years ago.
After a short city stay at the hotel, we will board the beautiful Strand Cruise for a journey on the Ayeyarwady River.
The ship is a reinvention of the legendary style and unique personality of The Strand, Yangon within a contemporary river cruise experience.
Built in Yangon and launched in 2015, the ship has just 28 cabins and has been tailor-made to offer the best deck layout and facilities on the river to meet the needs of today’s luxury traveller.
The sun deck and upper deck allow for a variety of different dining options depending on weather conditions – alfresco on the Sun Deck or within the fine dining Strand restaurant – as well as private dining options.
It's also worth knowing that guests booked into one of the two Strand Suites will have added extras included in their rate, including butler service, a one-hour spa treatment of their choice, a night at The Strand Hotel pre- or post- cruise and private airport transfers between The Strand Cruise and the airport.
To enhance experience and comfort, The Strand Cruise itineraries mean dramatically reduced times spent on bus transport and increased cruise times compared to others sailing the Ayeyarwady. Access to private jetties close to the landmarks visited also gives an even better experience.
Each day will bring fresh beauty and curiosity on this trip and soaking up local life will be key for agents, with horse-drawn carts in Ava, tuk tuk trips in Mingun, vintage trucks in Sagaing and seeing the incredible temples of Bagan.
“The UK market is one of our strongest, thanks to the expertise and experience of our travel partners and the discerning and adventurous nature of their clients,” said Jared Green, director of sales, The Strand Hotel & Cruise. “We can’t wait to show agents how we have revived the Strand name in Myanmar.”
