The hot 'new' hotel on the Algarve - well, a refurb that's the talk of Portugal

The €50 million renovation, which took 18 months to complete, signals a new direction for the 72-hectare cliff-top site and is all part of a multi-million dollar investment aimed at restoring Luxury Collection’s most iconic hotels.

The resort sits at the heart of Portugal’s burgeoning luxury travel scene, further cementing the Algarve’s appeal as a five-star destination.

One of Starwood’s most significant projects this year, the resort celebrates the hotel’s important Portuguese heritage, and features 217 rooms and suites which - along with public areas - have been transformed by interior designer, Lynne Hunt.

Sitting alongside the hotel are the new Pine Cliffs Ocean Suites, 148 suites, one- and two-bedroom luxury apartments complete with personalised butler service and full access to Pine Cliffs’ facilities.

The resort also features 11 restaurants and bars under executive chef, Marco Alban, six swimming pools, kids club, an Annabel Croft Tennis Academy, nine-hole golf course, shops, boutiques, and vast event space. Spa aficionados can enjoy the 1,000m2 state-of-the-art spa, Serenity: The Art of Well Being, with 12 themed treatment rooms, Thermal Oasis and Aurum Serenity Suite.

Speaking about the new-look hotel, Carlos Leal, general manager, United Investments Portugal, said: “We are delighted to strengthen our successful partnership with Starwood Hotels & Resorts and preserve the distinctive DNA of this iconic hotel, whilst creating a new benchmark for luxury seafront living in Portugal.”

To celebrate the new-look, Pine Cliffs Beach Club is taking over London’s Canary Wharf from July-September, with an alfresco pop-up bar, run in partnership with Quintessentially Travel.

It will transport work-weary Londoners to Portugal’s finest beaches, offering Portuguese wines, signature white port cocktails, Moet Ice and Sagres beer. Customers can also win a holiday for two at the resort, including return flights and accommodation.

Singer-songwriter, Aloe Blacc, has also been lined up to take centre stage at Pine Cliffs’ annual Summer Gala on August 6. The hotel is pitching the gala as the summer event on the Algarve, entertaining guests with a line up of music, entertainment and cuisine.
