As with all the brand’s hotels, Bvlgari Hotel Roma will be designed by Italian architectural firm Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel.

The 100-room property is expected to open in 2022 when it will join sister properties in Milan, London, Dubai, Bali, Beijing and Shanghai.

Tipped as being Rome’s “most luxurious hospitality experience ever” by the company, it is being created in the central Piazza Augusto Imperatore and will be housed inside a rationalist building by architect Vittorio Ballio Morpurgo.

It faces two iconic Roman landmarks, the Ara Pacis and the Mausoleum of Augustus – currently under renovation – and is close to Via del Corso and Via del Babuino, the Spanish Steps and the signature Bvlgari flagship on Via Condotti.

The hotel will be home to Il Ristorante by Michelin-starred chef Niko Romito and The Bvlgari Bar, both located on the top floor with views of the Eternal City.

The hotel will also include a high-end spa with an indoor pool, and a state-of-the-art gym, offering Bvlgari’s exclusive Workshop training method.

As a unique feature, the Bvlgari Hotel Roma will also feature a Reading Room with a collection of books dedicated to the history of jewellery, open to hotel guests and to the public by appointment only.

“We are particularly proud to have secured such an extraordinary location for the new Bvlgari Hotel in Rome,” said Bvlgari chief executive Jean-Christophe Babin. “This hotel represents a remarkable achievement for Bvlgari, which will finally have its own ‘temple’ right in the city where the company was founded and that still represents nowadays the beating heart of the brand.”

Bvlgari was founded in Rome in 1884 as a jewellery shop, and the brand is now part of luxury conglomerate LVMH, and since forming a joint venture to do so in 2001, hotel development under the brand has been managed by Marriott International. Future Bvlgari hotels are expected soon in Paris, Moscow and Tokyo.

Bvlgari is also funding work to enhance Ara Pacis with Roma Capitale, via a €120,000 donation.
