Four Seasons plans third hotel in Japan

Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts is to open its third hotel in Japan, as the country continues to boom in popularity.

Okinawa Four Seasons, Japan

As Japan's tourism fortunes continue to soar, Four Seasons announces it is to add its third hotel in the country

The group will open a 120-room hotel on the island of Okinawa in partnership with Malaysian development group Berjaya as part of a master plan project with a further 120 private residences and 40 villas for sale across 100 acres.

Four Seasons Resort and Private Residences Okinawa will join sister properties Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Marunouchi and Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto, another Berjaya Group project.

The new beachfront project is on Okinawa’s west coast, 31 miles from Naha International airport and is expected to take approximately four years to complete at a cost of $400 million.

“I am sure that with the prestigious Four Seasons branding and management, along with its strategic location in central Okinawa, the hotel will be one of the best on the island,” said Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Vincent Tan, founder and executive chairman of BCorp.

Landscape architecture and urban design firm EDSA Inc will drive the masterplan, while Japanese architects Kengo Kuma and Kuniken will serve as joint architects.

Kengo Kuma was recently announced as the designer of Tokyo’s stadium for the 2020 Olympic Games, while Kuniken is the largest architecture firm in Okinawa.

Resort facilities will include an all-day dining restaurant, specialty dining and lounge, retail shops and recreation facilities, as well as public grounds and gardens.

Four Seasons currently operates 111 hotels and resorts, and 41 residential properties in 47 countries, and has more than 50 projects under planning or development.

Upcoming openings this year include Astir Palace on the Athens Riviera, Los Cabos and Montreal.
