Four Seasons takes on second hotel in Seychelles - Desroches is now in its portfolio

Dubai-based Albwardy Investment already owns the existing Four Seasons property in Seychelles and has now taken on the brand to manage 51-key Desroches, which is the only hotel on the tropical island.

Albwardy also owns several Four Seasons-managed hotels - namely in the Serengeti, Johannesburg and Buenos Aires - as well as many hotels under other brands across Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

Desroches will now undergo “extensive renovations” and re-open in 2017 as Four Seasons Resort Seychelles at Desroches Island.

“This is an exciting opportunity to extend our presence in the Seychelles and build on our successful partnership with Albwardy Investment,” said J. Allen Smith, president and chief executive of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. “We look forward to deepening our commitment to this important destination with the addition of a second property.”

Four Seasons has said it will develop the island’s Marine Conservation Discovery Centre and maintain the ongoing work at Desroches’ giant tortoise sanctuary, work which has seen it grow the population of this enormous creature to around 100.

The island will also feature two restaurants and a lounge bar and the spa will be expanded to offer six treatment rooms.

The island sits among the Amirantes Islands on the outer edge of the Seychelles archipelago and is a 35-minute flight from the international airport on Mahe, Seychelles central island.

With just 40 beach suites and 11 villas, Desroches will be one of Four Seasons' smallest hotels.

Ali Albwardy, chairman and founder of Albwardy Investment and chairman of Desroches Island Developments said: “Bringing Four Seasons to an outer island is a culmination of my own dreams, as well as a great legacy and accolade to the Islands Development Company [IDC], who are entrusted with preserving and promoting this piece of paradise.”
