One Aldwych to undergo major refurbishment

The property’s 102 rooms and suites, including four new one-bedroom suites, will be redesigned by Robert Angell, who has previously worked on other luxury London hotels such as The Connaught and The Berkeley.

Fabled Studio will be “reimagining” One Aldwych’s public spaces including its lobby bar, entrance, reception area and Indigo restaurant.

The renovation will be the largest refurbishment of One Aldwych since the hotel opened in 1998.

The property will remain open during the first part of the renovation starting in October but will be closed for around two months from mid-January to mid-March 2019 before reopening.

The project will be overseen by managing director Simon Hirst, who was the hotel’s general manager for 10 years and has recently returned from a spell at Raffles Hotel Singapore, also in the midst of a huge renovation.

Hirst said: “When the hotel first opened its doors 20 years ago, its striking design and exemplary service levels set the standard for others to follow. It has stood the test of time beautifully but tastes and expectations have changed.

“Now is the right moment to update the hotel, to create superbly comfortable, modern sophisticated rooms and once again set the benchmark in hotel design.”
