Opulent enters weddings market

The Shrewsbury-based business has unveiled Opulent Weddings, aiming to cater not just for weddings and honeymoons, but also hen and stag party trips abroad.

Director Leighann Morgan told TTG that the agency had already booked travel for several overseas weddings, including groups of up to 50 to destinations such as Cyprus and Cuba.

“The wedding service will operate alongside our travel brand,” she said. “We started talking about it in November and we have been getting more big wedding groups since the beginning of January.”

Opulent Weddings will have its own website and Instagram account.

“I’m going to be working on the weddings service, and we will have one member of staff working purely on weddings,” Morgan explained.

“I have already been training them. Enquiries are coming through – we’ve got three bookings already that add up to 100 people. A lot of bookings come in as recommendations… we’ve also just had a hen party booking for 20 going to Barcelona.”

As well as a 25-year career in the travel industry, Morgan has also worked in events – a role that included wedding planning.

Opulent Travel Service, which has a staff of four, will celebrate its first birthday later this month.

Morgan said she was looking to open a second shop but had not yet found a suitable location. “There’s not enough demand in Shrewsbury to have a second shop but I think it will be somewhere in Shropshire,” she added.

“It will be good to have the same brand in the same area. I’d like to take on more staff. There’s not enough space in the current shop – it’s cosy and friendly but there are only three desks.”

Morgan said she was also looking at co-branding deals with other local independent shops that are involved in the weddings market, such as jewellers and clothing specialists.
