The government of the Balearic islands has put the issue of tourism-related antisocial behaviour in the spotlight at a global summit.
Abta and Thomas Cook were among the 80 participants from 10 countries at the summit held in Palma, which included a specific focus on alcohol abuse.
Francina Armengol, president of the Balearic islands, said there was a need to look at a series of measures to tackle alcohol abuse.
She added: “This is a global issue which does not just impact the travel and tourism industry.”
Other delegates were from organisations including the British Consulate and Alcohol Policy Youth Network, alongside airport, police and university representatives to discuss ideas of how to deal with antisocial tourism behaviour caused by excessive drinking on flights, clubs, hotels and leisure areas.
The results of these debates, round-table discussions, questionnaires and panels will be presented to authorities including the Spanish government and European Commission.
