Germany has become the latest country to ban UK tourists amid an increase in concern over the Omicron variant of Covid-19.
The new curbs came into force on Sunday night (19 December). The French government has already imposed strict travel restrictions on British tourists.
According to the UK Foreign Office, only Brits who are residents in Germany and German citizens are allowed entry to the country.
Permitted travellers entering Germany from the UK are required to complete a digital registration and show proof of a negative PCR or antigen pre-departure test, regardless of vaccination status.
On arrival, eligible travellers from the UK must also quarantine at home for 14 days irrespective of their vaccination status.
The UK has been declared a virus variant area of concern, the country’s highest risk level, by the Robert-Koch-Institute.
Denmark, France, Norway and Lebanon have also been added to Germany’s highest risk list.
