Greece is poised to lift certain domestic restrictions, such as masks indoors and Covid vaccination certificates, for the upcoming summer season, according to the country’s health minister.
From 1 May to 31 August, visitors and members of the public will not need to present vaccination or illness certificates to enter indoor or open spaces, such as restaurants.
Speaking to Greek media on Tuesday (12 April), health minister Thanos Plevris said the removal of international entry requirements – including the need to show proof of either vaccination, recent recovery from Covid, or a negative test to enter Greece – were also under consideration.
The wearing of masks in indoor settings will also no longer be mandatory as of 1 June.
Plevris said the decision to ease domestic rules was "based on the epidemiological data and suggestions from experts”, adding authorities will consider reinstating the measures in September.
The UK Foreign Office is yet to update its own advice for Greece.
