London continues to boom as a tourist destination by setting a new visitor record for the second quarter of the year.
The UK capital welcomed 5.1 million international visitors between April and June, which was a 6% rise on the same period last year.
Tourist spending in London also rose by 8% to £3.2 billion year-on-year. The increases come after the city enjoyed a record-breaking 2014 when it hosted 17.4 overseas guests who spent a total of £11.8 billion.
The UK, as a whole, hosted 9.9 million international visitors during the second quarter, which was a 5% rise on the previous year. Tourist spending was also up by 7% to £5.8 billion.
London mayor Boris Johnson said: “People come from around the world to experience our unique mix of history, culture, shopping and world-class events.”
