Snow storms have brought travel chaos to the US east coast, closing New York’s JFK airport.
Nearly 4,000 flights were cancelled on Thursday following heavy snow brought in by a “bomb cyclone” which has covered parts of the north-eastern US seaboard and eastern Canada.
JFK airport tweeted on Thursday that it had suspended operations “due to exceedingly strong winds and blowing snow”, later adding that flights were scheduled to resume at 7am on Friday morning.
Newark airport also tweeted to say that weather conditions were continuing to affect flights and that passengers should check the status of their flight with their carriers.
Logan airport in Boston has cancelled 700 flights due to the storm, with passengers urged to check with their airline for the most up to date information about their flight.
Reports suggest Boston could see up to 45cm of snowfall.
Temperatures are then expected to plunge following the snowfall, as air from the North Pole heads towards the US mid-Atlantic region, the BBC said.
The weather pattern has even brought snow to southern states as far down as Florida.
