British Airways says its check-in and flight departures have been hit by a systems glitch.
The airline confirmed on Wednesday morning (7 August) it was experiencing “systems problems” affecting check-in and flight departures, resulting in delays and some cancellations.
BA is offering short-haul passengers flying from Heathrow, Gatwick and London City airports on Wednesday the opportunity to fly later in the week (8-13 August).
“We are experiencing some systems problems this morning [Wednesday] which are affecting check-in and flight departures,” said a BA spokesperson.
“Please check ba.com and manage my booking for the latest flight information and allow extra time at the airport.”
The spokesperson told TTG the issue, affecting certain BA systems, was not a global IT outage.
They added the airline was operating back-up and manual systems to work around the problems.
A number of BA departures at Heathrow are delayed on Wednesday morning, including flights to Geneva, Brussels, Helsinki, Berlin, Budapest, Stockholm and Munich.
BA flight 950 to Munich, 1438 to Edinburgh, 576 to Milan, 1326 to Newcastle, 878 to St Petersburg, 484 to Barcelona, 728 to Geneva, 712 Zurich, 346 to Nice, 814 to Copenhagen, 862 to Prague, 1476 to Glasgow, 1386 to Manchester, 378 to Toulouse, 834 to Dublin and 938 to Dusseldorf were all showing as cancelled.
Several BA flights departing Gatwick are also showing as delayed.
Passengers have also reported issues checking in at Manchester and Glasgow airports, as well as problems with BA’s online services – including its app.
Others have taken to social media to report being stuck on BA aircraft for several hours.
BA is advising passengers arrive at their departure airport in good time.
The airline issued a further statement at around 8.30am, which said: "We are working as quickly as possible to resolve a systems issue which has resulted in some short-haul cancellations and delays from London airports.
"A number of flights continue to operate but we are advising customers to check ba.com for the latest flight information before coming to the airport.
"We are offering customers booked on short-haul services departing from Heathrow, Gatwick and London City today, the opportunity to rebook to another day [8-13 August].
