A leased British Airways CityFlyer flight to Dusseldorf landed in Edinburgh by mistake on Monday morning (March 25) after the wrong flight plan was filed for the journey.
The aircraft has since made its way to Dusseldorf, a BA spokesperson confirmed to TTG. The flight, BA3271 from London City airport to Dusseldorf, was operated by WDL Aviation on behalf of BA CityFlyer as part of a wet lease arrangement.
“We are working with WDL Aviation, who operated this flight on behalf of British Airways, to establish why the incorrect flight plan was filed,” said the BA spokesperson.
“We have apologised to customers for this interruption to their journey and will be contacting them all individually.”
A WDL Aviation spokesperson added: “We are working closely with the authorities to investigate how the obviously unfortunate mix-up of flight schedules could occur.
“At no time has the safety of passengers been compromised. We flew the five passengers on the flight with number BA3271 to Dusseldorf after the involuntary stopover in Edinburgh.”
The flight had been due to take off from City Airport at 7.30am and arrive in Dusseldorf at 9.40am.
It is understood to have touched down in Edinburgh at around 9am before eventually making its way to the German city by around 1pm.
