Two of the largest budget carriers operating in the UK have reported soaring traffic figures for August.
Wizz Air carried a record 4.036 million passengers last month, the first time it has tipped the four million mark in August.
Its total passenger numbers for August were up 16.1% year-on-year, and are up 15.4% to 37.3 million for the rolling 12 months to 31 August 2019.
Wizz’s load factor for August also increased by 0.7 percentage points to 96.3% year-on-year, while its rolling 12-month average is up 1.5ppts.
The Hungarian carrier said the announcement of 23 new routes; entry into three new markets; expansion of its fleet to 119 aircraft; and expansion of its Vienna and Skopje bases all contributed to its August growth.
Ryanair, meanwhile, reported August traffic figures up 8% group-wide from 13.8 million last year to 14.9 million.
Its 12-month rolling annual passenger numbers increased from 135.5 million to 149.2 million (+10%).
