Five tourism students are completing internships with Royal Caribbean International following the launch of a partnership with the University of Chester.
Four second year students studying Tourism Management and Business Management at Chester Business School and one from the University’s partner college in the Isle of Man studying Events Management and Marketing were selected to take part in the programme. They were chosen following their performance throughout the academic year and a series of interviews.
The five students joined the Royal Caribbean UK sales team in May for a six-week period. Their mentored experiences included ship visits, the Clia conference and meetings with agents. They also helped with the launch of Harmony of the Seas in Southampton and Barcelona.
Each student will now be assessed and, if successful, be offered an extension to the internship over the summer holiday. Royal Caribbean UK and Ireland sales director Ben Bouldin said:
“The University of Chester has an excellent reputation for offering its students a world-class introduction to tourism management, so it was an ideal opportunity to introduce them to the extraordinary world of Royal Caribbean to extend that education with valuable and unique on-the-job experience.”
Dr Maeve Marmion, the University’s programme leader for International Tourism Management said: “Our internship programme with Royal Caribbean offers an incredible insight into the travel industry working with a leading travel brand.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer our students such a dynamic experience and the opportunity to bolster their credentials and enhance their overall employability.”
