Emirates is considering the addition of a premium economy class to some of its fleet.
The airline’s chief executive Tim Clark said having a fourth cabin class was something that was being decided upon. He told media in the Middle East: “We’re looking at all sorts of opportunities in terms of product development but clearly there’s a business case for looking seriously at premium economy.”
He added that this did not mean Emirates would definitely do it, “but we are looking at it”. If it goes ahead, the Dubai-based carrier will be the only one of the three big Gulf airlines to offer a premium-economy product.
Emirates will fit a new first-class cabin on Airbus A380s and Boeing 777s at the end of 2017. The design will be confirmed at the end of this year.
