Emirates has pledged to eliminate more than 80 million single-use plastic items from its aircraft every year.
The airline introduced paper straws at the start of the month and says its flights will soon be plastic straw-free.
The move forms part of Emirates long-term sustainability initiatives, which will see plastic swizzle sticks and stirrers replaced with eco-friendly alternatives by the end of the year.
And from August, in-flight purchases will come in a paper rather than plastic bag.
Emirates says its various efforts will prevent nearly 82 million single-use plastic items reaching landfill every year.
It is also trialling new recycling initiatives and inviting staff, cabin crew and passengers for feedback and suggestions for other environmentally friendly ideas.
“A full review of onboard plastics has been conducted and, over the next few months, the airline will gradually implement other initiatives to tackle plastic waste,” said Emirates.
