Eurostar staff will go on strike for seven days this month in a dispute over “unsocial hours”, the RMT union has said.
Workers are due to walk out from 00:01 on August 12 until 23.59 on August 15 – with an additional three days of industrial action over the bank holiday weekend from August 27.
The transport union believes Eurostar has failed to honour an agreement from 2008 on working conditions for staff and has said this current strike is in response to unsocial working hours and the duty rosters for around 80 of the company’s train managers.
RMT general secretary Mick Cash said: "Our train manager members at Eurostar have a heavy commitment to shift work and unsocial hours and are sick and tired of the company’s failure to honour agreements.
"Our members have every right to have a fair work-life balance that fulfils the operational needs of the company while guaranteeing quality time off for friends and family.
"It’s now time for Eurostar to come to the negotiating table with a set of proposals that honours our agreements and guarantees our members a genuine work-life balance."
In response, Eurostar has said all passengers with reservations to travel on affected days will be able to go ahead with their journeys, the BBC reports.
The company added that it was currently in talks with the RMT to resolve the upcoming strike and had put contingency plans in place.
A spokesperson said: "On the days of the strike we have made some small changes to our timetable to ensure that all passengers booked to travel will be able to on those days. Passengers affected will be notified in advance."
