The Foreign Office is advising against all non-essential travel to the Caribbean country of Haiti due to an “unstable and dangerous security situation”.
The FCO changed its advice following protests in capital Port au Prince and elsewhere in Haiti.
“Sporadic, unpredictable and sometimes violent demonstrations and roadblocks continue. These could occur at any time and may turn violent,” said the FCO in its updated advice.
“The movement of goods and people into and within the country has been disrupted due to blocked roads and security incidents. As a consequence, there are fuel and food shortages.”
The FCO said UK citizens who still had to travel to Haiti should “remain vigilant at all times”, as well as to keep movements to a “minimum” and “regularly review your departure options”.
“Avoid all demonstrations and large public gatherings, monitor local media, follow the advice of local authorities and keep up to date with this travel advice,” added the FCO.
