Virgin Voyages has given a flavour of the interiors and public spaces onboard its upcoming adults-only ship, launching in 2020.
The line debuted its “modern romance of sailing” concept in New York last week with elements onboard the vessel including Richard’s Rooftop – a top-deck private lounge named after Virgin Group founder Sir Richard Branson.
British designer Tom Dixon has created the space, while Virgin Voyages has also worked with New York-based outfit Roman and Williams and Dutch design agency Concrete Amsterdam on other aspects of the ship.
The ship also features a “gym-meets-social hangout”, The Athletic Club, featuring what is claimed to be the largest daybed at sea, along with a catamaran-inspired netted area allowing passengers to overlook decks below.
The Manor will be the main nightclub, inspired by Branson’s background in the music industry, while with an outdoor lounge, The Dock, Virgin is aiming to simulate the feel of shore-side hangouts in the Hamptons, Ibiza and Bali.
The ship’s Test Kitchen restaurant will have a science laboratory-like feel with metallic furniture, beakers, test tubes and volumetric flasks. Other public spaces and cabins will be revealed throughout the year as part of Virgin Voyages’ series of #ShipTease events.
