Travelport has appointed Greg Webb its new chief executive, bringing 20 years’ travel tech experience to the role.
Former Oracle Hospitality and Sabre chief Webb will assume the role on 1 August. He will also join the company’s board of directors.
Webb succeeds Gordon Wilson, who will step down as president and chief executive of the GDS provider, which was acquired in May by a consortium comprising Siris Capital Group and Evergreen Capital for $4.4 billion.
Most recently, Webb was senior vice-present and general manager of travel technology solutions provider Oracle Hospitality, with responsibility for strategy, development, sales, service and support.
Prior to his stint at Oracle, Webb served 20 years at GDS giant Sabre during which time he held various executive positions across product development and marketing, leading on Sabre’s largest business unit - Sabre Travel Network.
Latterly, he held the role of vice-chairman at Sabre.
Webb said he was excited to join the company at an “exciting and transformative time”.
“I look forward to working with the leadership team and employees to continue to deliver innovative solutions and offer our customers great products and great service,” Webb added.
Wilson said after 28 years with the company, it was time to hand over the reins to someone else.
“The recent change in ownership of Travelport is the right occasion for this to happen,” he said. “I firmly believe Travelport’s new investors will be good for the company and I’m delighted to be handing over to an executive as well tenured and experienced in travel technology as Greg Webb.
“Travelport is a great business full of great people who will work hand-in-hand with Greg, focusing their collective skills and expertise to take the company to its next level of growth and success.”
John Swainson, executive chairman of Travelport and Siris executive partner, added: “Gordon has been great to work with throughout the process leading to Siris’ decision to invest in the company and the transition of its leadership.
“He has made an enormous contribution to Travelport over the years and we wish him well with his next endeavours.
“I also want to give a warm welcome to Greg, whose industry knowledge, customer-focused experience and understanding of how to best monetise technology platforms will provide Travelport with strong leadership in this new era.”
