Fred Holidays has launched a north Iceland programme, offering a range of three- and four-night winter and summer itineraries utilising new Niceair charter flights to Akureyri from Stansted and Manchester.
Itineraries take in the Godafoss and Detifoss waterfalls, Lake Myvatn and its geothermal baths, and the fishing village of Husavik, where guests can go whale watching. It is also where Eurovision Song Contest spoof movie The Story of Fire Saga was filmed.
During the winter, guests can explore the area by snowmobile, take a snowshoe tour across Lake Myvatn or enjoy a day’s skiing near Akureyri itself, while in the summer, they can visit the Lofthellier ice cave and hike the Hverfjall Crater to view the sunrise.
Northern Iceland is also popular with nature lovers, who can see puffins in their natural habitat, go birdwatching, explore the lava formations at Dimmu Borgir or take a Northern Lights tour.
Akureyri is Iceland’s second city, with the majority of major attractions within 20 to 30 minutes. Fred Holidays trips are on sale now, and can be fully tailored.
Simon Chambers, Fred Holidays general manager, said: “These new itineraries offer extensive opportunities to explore the lesser-known side of Iceland. New and returning visitors can experience plenty of adventure, natural and cultural wonders, an abundance of wildlife and some out-of-this-world experiences.
"As tailor-made specialists, all of our journeys can be customised which means our clients can be in control of their holiday while leaving the intricacies of booking to our knowledgeable experts.”
Three-night summer trips lead in from £1,169pp and winter from £969pp, while four-night summer trips lead in from £1,299pp and winter from £1,009pp.
All trips include return UK flights, transfers, three- or four-star accommodation including breakfast, a whale watching trip, Northern Lights and Forrest Lagoon tour, and Fred Holidays welcome package.
