A fundraising campaign, launched to help the boyfriend of a tourism graduate injured following an accident at a waterpark, is closing in on its target.
David Briffaut is currently on a life support machine after breaking two vertebrae in his neck going down a water slide at the Aqualandia attraction in Benidorm.
He was holidaying with girlfriend Penny Bristow when the accident happened on 8 July.
Bristow worked at The Cruise Portfolio, the UK-based global sales agent for Crystal Cruises, for a year between 2017-2018 as part of her tourism management degree at the University of Hertfordshire and is planning a career in the travel industry.
The couple had gone on holiday to celebrate her recent graduation.
A spokesperson for Aqualandia told the BBC the situation was "very sad", but added: "The park is not responsible for the accident."
Following the accident, Briffaut’s family is trying to raise £75,000 to transport him home and a JustGiving page has now passed more than £73,000.
