G Adventures is aiming to provide free water bottle refills in 80% of its accommodation by January 2020.
The Plastics Partnership Project, which was revealed at G Stock Live today (28 October), has been launched to tackle single-use plastic consumption on its tours.
Brian Young, G Adventures’ managing director, said: “This is part of a massive initiative going on around the world to move on from single-use plastic.”
He encouraged all G Adventures customers to pack a reusable water bottle and help the operator towards its target.
This comes as part of a community project and responsible tourism drive from the adventure company with its non-profit partner Planeterra.
Initially aiming to set up 50 projects in five years from 2015 to 2020 – coined “50 in Five” – G Adventures smashed that target and is now reaching for 100 projects by 2020.
At G Stock Live, Young revealed there are only 15 more projects left before G Adventures reaches its higher goal.
He said: “The impacts of these projects is huge and community tourism makes up the DNA of our organisation.
“It’s not a new concept, we have been partnering with community projects since we started 30 years ago.
“Tourism needs to extend further, involve more people. What if you could go on holiday and change the world by having an amazing time?”
