United Airlines is facing yet another PR disaster after a giant rabbit died on a flight from Heathrow.
Three-foot long Simon passed away in the cargo section of a United flight to Chicago’s O’Hare airport en route to its new celebrity owner. The animal, reputed to be worth around £5,000, had been expected to grow into the world’s biggest rabbit but did not survive the journey.
The airline now faces a legal claim from Simon’s new owner and its breeder, former Playboy model Annette Edwards. United told The Sun that it was ‘reviewing the matter’.
United allows rabbits to travel in the cabin on domestic flights, but confines them to the hold, which is heated and pressurised, during international travel.
