Scotland’s Loganair plans to expand flights to Europe in 2019 with the addition of its first jet aircraft in nearly 30 years.
The Glasgow-based airline plans to take at least two 50-seat Embraer jets from sister airline bmi to re-launch its European expansion, according to The Scotsman. The paper tips a Glasgow-Brussels link as the carrier’s most likely first route.
Loganair managing director Jonathan Hinkles told a business meeting in Glasgow: “We will be flying our first jet in modern times. It will be a significant upgrade and enable us to go further afield.” Hinkles hinted that some routes could also be launched from Edinburgh.
Loganair will gain the new aircraft from bmi as it begins a fleet renewal, switching to bigger jets.
Loganair currently has only one route to continental Europe, from Inverness to Bergen, which is operated with a bmi aircraft.
