The Lufthansa Group is pulling more tickets sales from global GDS systems in order to sell them via its own New Distribution Capability (NDC) Partner Program.
From December 1, the cheapest European Point to Point fares offered by Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa and SWISS will only be available via NDC and direct sales channels.
The move will be applied to all economy light fares, except those on aircraft departing from Heathrow and London City airports where the airline group faces less competition from low cost carriers.
There is no date set for when the situation may change for flights departing the two airports.
Lufthansa Group senior director sales, UK, Ireland and Iceland, Andreas Koester said fares on its European Light and Classic fares on point-to-point routes from Manchester and Dublin to Lufthansa Group’s hubs in Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna and Zurich will be reduced by £9 for a single and £17 return.
He added: “We are now seeing a strong understanding within the UK trade about the value of an NDC connection.
"With a comprehensive NDC infrastructure now in place, and improving all the time, the number of NDC bookings is growing strongly.
"With our announcement today we are focusing our efforts on providing a proper commercial incentive for the use of our NDC channels."
