Madeira has outlined what travellers can expect when the island re-opens to visitors on 1 July.
Madeira and neighbouring Porto Santo recommend all travellers are tested within 72 hours of arrival. In addition, they will have to complete a questionnaire online or using an app.
Passengers who do not present a certificate saying they are Covid-free will be tested on arrival. Testing will be free and results delivered by phone within 12 hours.
Officials said: “Confinement is not mandatory during waiting time. However, it is recommended that passengers go to their accommodation and wait there for results.”
Children younger than 12 years old will not need tests, except in suspected cases.
The islands are also limiting transfer bus capacity to 90% and disposable gloves will be mandatory when onboard.
In hotels, rooms will be limited to two guests, except for families with children up to 12 years. Masks must be worn in common areas and bars and gyms must dedicate 4sqm to each guest. Lifts will only operate at 60% capacity and swimming pools, spas and business centres at 50%.
