“Dangerous and concerning.” That is how Richard Dixon described the situation to me this week. To the FCO’s credit, its travel advice is refreshed promptly, but whose job it is to disseminate it more widely is another matter. Is it the FCO itself? Or Abta? The consumer press? Should holiday firms monitor FCO guidance more proactively? Many already do. What was perhaps more worrying though was the apparent disinformation circulating – because you can bet insurers won’t concern themselves with how any subsequent errors occur.
