Arved von zur Muehlen joins from Qatar Airways, where he was responsible for global sales strategy and development plus innovation and technology. He helped introduce a new internet sales platform and booking engine at Qatar. Simmons, who previously had an identical role with Flybe and has also worked for easyJet, leaves after only 10 months in the job.
Malaysia Airlines’ chief executive Peter Bellew said: “Arved will focus on developing a comprehensive and sustainable plan to improve Malaysia Airlines’ marketing, sales, products and customer service. He brings with him over 20 years of professional experience in the aviation industry and will add a valuable breadth of understanding across sales, marketing and technological innovation. “
Malaysia Airlines is undergoing a restructuring programme that has involved jobs losses and a downsizing of its route network. The carrier is also preparing to offload its Airbus A380 fleet, which are too big for its needs.
Bellew added: “I wish to thank Paul for his contributions to Malaysia Airlines and I look forward to a smooth transition and working with Arved to continue the work began by Paul in the next phase of the airline’s exciting journey”.
