The Malta Tourism Authority has appointed Peter Vella as the new UK and Ireland Director.
The appointment marks a return to the travel industry for Vella, who has been working outside of the sector since 2009.
His travel industry career includes senior roles with Horizon Holidays, First Choice, TUI and Birmingham Airport, where he spent twelve years as its business development director.
Vella has replaced Michael Piscopo, who held the role in an interim capacity since April when former director, Alex Incorvaja returned to Malta after six years in London.
Commenting on his appointment, Vella said: “I am looking forward to strengthening the islands’ appeal across the UK and Ireland, where a warm and special bond has existed for centuries."
Paul Bugeja, chief executive of the Malta Tourism Authority, added: “Peter has been part in the UK travel industry for over 20 years, with an impressive track record across tour operating, travel retail, aviation, destination marketing and UK short break sectors.
"He also has a passion for what Malta has to offer which made him the obvious choice for the role."
