Low-cost airline Norwegian is turning up the heat on rivals with the announcement of new routes from the UK and Ireland to the US.
The carrier is planning 38 flights a week from Edinburgh, Belfast, Dublin, Cork and Shannon – with one-way prices starting from just £69pp.
The new routes will focus on smaller US airports offering access to New York, Boston and the New England region – Stewart International in New York State; Providence, Rhode Island for Boston; and Bradley International in Connecticut for New England.
To keep costs down, Norwegian will operate the routes using new narrow-bodied B737-MAX aircraft.
From Edinburgh the airline will operate 14 flights per week – daily to Stewart International; four times a week to Providence; and three times a week to Bradley International. Belfast will feature three weekly flights to New York State and two each week to Providence.
Norwegian chief executive Bjorn Kjos said: "Our new non-stop services will allow tens of thousands of new travellers to fly between the continents much more affordably.
Norwegian’s latest transatlantic offering is not only great news for the travelling public, but also for the local US, Irish and UK economies as we will bring more tourists that will increase spending and support thousands of local jobs."
