MSC Cruises is to moor two vessels in Doha for use by football fans during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The 4,000 cabins the ships will provide will fill a need that the city’s hotel sector cannot offer, The Guardian reports.
The paper says as many as 40,000 fans are likely to stay on ships due to the lack of hotel capacity in the country.
Apart from the lack of capacity, most of Doha’s existing properties are in the five-star bracket and prices will be at a premium during the tournament.
The two vessels, MSC Poesia and the new build MSC Europa, will be berthed at Doha Port during the event, which starts on 21 November 2022.
