Iconic Singapore hotel Raffles has revealed details of three new suite categories as it prepares to close for a major refurbishment.
Raffles Singapore, which started the first phase of its renovation programme in February, is due to close completely on December 13.
The three new suite categories - Residence Suites, Promenade Suites and Studio Suites – will be introduced to complement the hotel’s five existing suite categories when the renovation is completed.
This move will increase the total number of suites at the hotel from the existing 103 to 115 when Raffles reopens in the second half of 2018.
The hotel, which is operated by French hotel giant Accor, has also announced plans for a new Raffles Spa, housed within Raffles Arcade, which will also continue to be home to a “refreshed” gift shop with a History Gallery showcasing the property’s heritage.
Christian Westbeld, general manager, Raffles Singapore, said: “The History Gallery exhibits the hotel’s heritage over the past 130 years, and highlights the role Raffles Singapore played as a landmark in the country, and also in the region.”
Historic venues such as the Long Bar, Tiffin Room and Writers Bar will be renovated as part of the refurbishment, which will also see afternoon tea being served in a new lounge within the hotel’s Grand Lobby.
Wedding and event areas are to be enhanced including the conversion of Jubilee Hall into a 300-guest ballroom, plus the refurbishment of the other indoor and outdoor venues.
“We are pleased to share these updates, designed to keep Raffles Singapore relevant and distinctive to our guests while providing a new level of excitement with sublime experiences,” added Westbeld.
“At the same time, careful consideration has been taken to ensure we retain the ambience and what is unique to Raffles Singapore.”
