Ryanair has lodged a "non-binding offer" for Alitalia.
The embattled Italian carrier filed to be put into special administration for the second time since 2008 back in May.
It will now be restructured, sold off or wound up.
According to Italian media reports, Alitalia had received around 10 non-binding offers by the deadline on Friday last week.
Ryanair’s chief financial officer Neil Sorahan told media in London yesterday: “We have put a non-binding bid in.”
He added that it “would not be fair to administrators” to reveal further details about the Irish carrier’s bid.
Although he emphasised that Ryanair was “too busy to do something without being interested.”
