Ryanair has broken the 100 million passenger rank for the first time, Iata has confirmed.
Iata’s latest World Airline Transport Statistics (WATS) showed that the low-cost airline has carried the highest number of international customers out of all 200 Iata member airlines in 2015, writes Plamena Manolova.
Ryanair has come first in the WATS with 101.4 million passengers, followed by easyJet 62.6 million and Emirates with 51 million.
Robin Kiely, head of communications for Ryanair, said: “Iata has once again confirmed that Ryanair remains the world’s favourite airline as we became the first airline in the world to carry more than 100 million international customers in one year thanks to our ‘always getting better’ programme and by offering the lowest fares in Europe.
“Customers can look forward to more new routes, new digital features, new cabin interiors and even more low fares, as we carry more than 117million passengers this year.”
To celebrate the achievement Ryanair has released 100,000 seats for sale, at prices starting from €19.99 for travel in October and November across Europe. Bookings with the airline should be made before midnight on August 29.
