Six Senses has revealed plans to open its first resort in Israel, close to the Red Sea destination of Eilat.
The Six Senses Shaharut will be based in the Negev Desert’s Arava Valley - a 45-minute drive from Eilat’s new airport in southern Israel.
The resort, which is due to open in November 2018, will have 58 suites and villas, including a three-bedroom retreat.
Six Senses said it will “integrate the desert topography” within the design of the new resort including the use of local stone, regional cacti and desert plants in the construction of the villas.
Facilities will include an all-day restaurant, poolside bar and grill, plus a bar located in the Six Senses Spa. The resort’s restaurants, including a tented Bedouin dining experience, will use ingredients from its own gardens as well as from local farmers.
There will also be an 18-metre indoor pool alongside an outdoor pool, gym, nail bar, kids club and a yoga studio with desert views. While guests will be able to watch movies under the stars at an open-air amphitheatre.
Six Senses chief executive Neil Jacobs said: “We are very excited to announce this magical Six Senses project in the desert of Israel.
“Working with Arava Vineyards on Six Senses Shaharut has allowed us to align with a company that shares our vision of sustainability and wellness.
“We could not ask for a better partner or a more perfect setting to showcase the best of Israel.”
The Israel resort will also feature a desert activity centre, which will focus on Six Senses’ Earth Lab sustainability initiative.
Six Senses currently operates 11 resorts and 31 spas across its Six Senses and Evason brands. The company’s first urban property is due to open in New York in 2019.
