Rare appearances of sunshine are causing problems at Stansted airport, where the sun’s rays are confusing security cameras at border control.
The Guardian reports that cameras in the west-facing passport control room are being swamped with light at sundown and cannot read images of passengers’ faces. This means that those trying to use the biometric passport lanes are being rejected and face joining another queue.
The airport is trying to resolve the issue. Nor is it the first time that the wrong angle of sunshine has slowed down travel. Earlier this year, train drivers in London were unable to see to close doors because of reflections on platform mirrors.
