Peterborough United is offering former Thomas Cook staff free tickets for Saturday’s clash with Wimbledon (28 September).
The club, affectionately known as The Posh, said the “small gesture” was a show of support for the city, where Cook was a major employer, and its people.
“The football club and Thomas Cook have enjoyed a long-standing relationship since the travel business moved its headquarters to the city in 1977, with Thomas Cook sponsoring our shirts and the South Stand for a prolonged period in the 1990s,” said Peterborough.
Cook employees must visit the ticket office at Peterborough’s Weston Homes Stadium and provide proof of employment to secure a free match ticket.
Additional tickets for the children of those affected are also available for a nominal fee, the club said.
Staff and fans alike have been encouraged to promote the gesture and the match using the hashtag #AUnitedCity.
